James Bond Watches
James Bond... the heart-throb of women
world-wide and the secret agent every man lives through (vicariously, of course)
Years before 007 hit the movie screens,
the cult-classic
television series, Danger Man, set the standard for the hip, ultra-cool British spy
genre that followed. The first Danger Man episode aired in 1960, as a half-hour program, on
British television. It ran for one season (39 episodes) before returning, in 1964, as an
hour-long series (renamed Secret Agent in the USA). Patrick McGoohan (also
from The Prisoner in 1967 and Braveheart in 1995) starred as the international man of mystery, John Drake; a special NATO
operative traveling the globe on top-secret espionage missions. The second
series (1964-65, 32 episodes), third series (1965-66, 13 episodes) and the
fourth series (1966, 2 episodes) were much more popular, due to the
influence of the 007 films.
By 1965, Patrick McGoohan was the most
highly-paid actor on British television. McGoohan felt that Danger Man
was becoming repetitive and they should finish the series while they were ahead.
With the science-fiction genre still as popular as ever, McGoohan had a new idea
for a television program. It was to be set in the village of Portmeirion,
North Wales and he was going to relocate the entire Danger Man cast and
crew there.
After completing only 2 episodes, the fourth
season of Danger Man was cancelled and, in 1967, The Prisoner was
commissioned, thereby opening the way for a competition-free spy genre (such
as agent 007 and his many escapades).
James Bond and the 007 logo have created a
vast franchise empire. From the beginning, James Bond has influenced clothing,
accessories, gadgets, automobiles, food, liquor, games and recreational
vehicles, just to name a few.
For this website, we will concentrate on his
timepieces. Mr. Bond has worn some of the latest and most distinguished
brand names on the market. Always donning the latest and greatest
technology, 007 has been quite successful (much to the thanks of "Q").
"Q's" hopped-up wrist watches have gotten James out of countless
life-threatening situations.
Below, you will find a chart depicting the
various 007 movies, the years they were released, the timepiece names and
the timepieces' "Special Functions". You will notice some spaces are
blank. Please feel free to
