Modern wrist watches are becoming more and more activity-related as time goes by.  There was a time when a mechanical watch, containing an hour, minute and seconds hand, was appropriate.  Today, that simply won't do.

The modern Recreational Sports Watch is, in fact, an entirely different timepiece altogether (other than keeping accurate time).  With today's digital advancements, the modern recreational sports wrist watch can keep track of one's: golf strokes, golf handicap, laps run (or raced), email, weather, altitude, depth under water, time under water and much, much more.
